Construct Multi-Purpose Machine Gun Range SR-8

Project Information

  • Location: Camp Lejeune, NC
  • Client: Naval Facilities Engineering Command
  • Cost: $7 million

Details

This project focused on construction of complete multi-purpose machine gun range, including construction of a control tower, bleacher enclosure, and ammunition breakdown building, installation of pre-cast target enclosures with all target utility connections, extensive site preparation, and installation of all utilities. The large firing berm has multiple, walk-in firing stations at each lane. Concrete walls in the stations are up to five-feet high with some stations are over 98-feet in length. Service roads lead to each target for ease of future serviceability. The project included over one-half mile of high 12.47kV, medium-voltage, three-phase overhead wiring through primarily swamp like conditions. The team also installed five step down transformers (12.47kV to 120/240V single phase) to supply power to targets and buildings. Underground work included 55,000 linear feet of fiber optic and 32,000 linear feet of copper conductors to support 182 targets.

This project was completed 3.5 months ahead of the revised schedule and received an Outstanding owner evaluation.
